(is there a way to delete a post?)
Hello and welcome.
You may have more response posting your issue in the GrimeFighter subforum: https://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=63.0
You may also find others with similar or identical situations and possible resolutions.
Have a read.
OK I found hidden in another web page a suggestion that Grimefighter does not actually intend to remove software on reboot, but how can I tell for sure? I have temporarily uninstalled it. The scan page was horribly unclear. That was unnecessarily frightening!
I agree.
From my readings, it appears often confusing with lack of useable information, leaving a user with an insecure/unsure grasp of just what is going on.
Good luck.
Do you know that you don’t actually have to USE Grimefighter or any of the other “fluffware” packaged with Avast in order to get the benefit of its malware shields?
It’s not unreasonable to uncheck most or all of the “tools” features you see in the center column when running the Avast installer (e.g., to “Change” the installation).

- There is no “fluffware” or whatever like this on avast! There are security related features and very good 3rd party services.
- How do you think you can enjoy the benefit of avast! (and 240 millions with you) and still pay the bills? C’mon, come back to earth.
Tech, we might have to agree to disagree on the value of the extra “tools” that Avast packages along with their perfectly good antivirus package. I’m sorry to have characterized them as “fluffware”. I realize that’s demeaning and I’ll try to avoid using that term since it apparently bothers you.
That being said, I’d like to point out that it was someone at your company who programmed the installer to allow us to uncheck boxes and avoid installation of all those “tools” that seem an awful lot like the very PUPs we’re trying to use Avast to avoid getting into our computers.
Getting a bit real for a moment…
If it bothers you that people disrespect your practice of pushing these extras on them, well, it should! You reap what you sow. Perhaps it’s because you’ve programmed the product - free or upgraded - with Big Shiny Buttons to try to trick people into buying upgrades, to carry a default opt-in installation of Chrome, and packaging of a bunch of 3rd party “tools” you don’t have the source code for and which you can’t have fully vetted.
What user impressions do you honestly expect from that? These are not the actions of a friendly product.
-Noel
I’m not advocating the value of the tools, the problem is what is being shared for free, the price we need to pay as free users.
No, I’m not taking this personally in any way. It does not bothers me. It’s unfair and messes the forum atmosphere, that is what bothers me as a long time avast! helper.
I’m sure the tech people behind these decisions knows exactly what they’re doing.
They’re not being pushed. You can uncheck the options. You’re free to do it and still use the great antimalware shields.
220 million users voted. Some of them complain. Few post here in forum. That are the impressions I have. Besides, more than 60% of the users recommend avast! to their relatives and friends. 4 million like the page on Facebook. Really, we’re not alone
My two cents…avast provides each user the option of using these “tools”.
Some may like them while others do not. It is up to us to project an atmosphere
of support whether or not the helper approves the use of any given tool. I’m sure
there are some users who do use and depend on Grimefighter and we should support
them. I must admit there are some of these tools that I personally do not use but as
a forum member I am somewhat obligated to assist others to the best of my abilities.
Something to keep in mind avast integrated several new technologies in v2014 and
there will always be bugs to be worked out.
The new site is unusable!!!
Which new site ???

@janos,
I suggest you start your own topic since this isn’t related to GimeFighter.
