I have just had my shutdown problems sorted out by the forum and would like to say thanks
However, I do have another problem, this time with frequent startup hangs.
The problem seems to be between Zonealarm (2.6.362) and Avast. If I remove Zonealarm it works fine and if I remove Avast it works fine. I have checked the ZA error log and the last entry is always Avast. I’ve tried ‘Startup Delayer’ which didn’t help at all (as well as trashing my system upon uninstalling). I want to keep both running at startup (if possible) due to my ailing memory ;D
Firstly I am not running Web Shield - the only thing I have is the Standard shield. Also, the hangs occur when I boot up (I am having no problems whatsoever surfing). Once I am up, booted and running, things are fine.
Try Startup Delayer.
It’s the only freeware I’ve found that controls the windows startup (Windows 98\Me\2k\XP) that does not follow a strict order.
You can set some applications to start very after the boot (logon) itself.
Sorry, I lose this phrase in my earlier thoughts :-[
Well, Startup Delayer works like a charm for me. Not that I have any problem while booting with avast.
But, of course, your system is different than mine.
I bet that some problem with ZA is interfering with your boot.
Which is your operational system?
I am using Win98SE. I figure it is a conflict between ZA and Avast as when either of them are stopped running at startup, the boot up is fine with no hangs. Like I said, ZA gets its knickers in a knot and hangs when Avast loads
That’s why I gave up from ZA and turned into Outpost and after to Sygate…
I could never end the conflicts since ZA 4.5. Before, I used ZA since version 2 very good.
Well, software not always become better while time passes by ;D
