I found through AVAST boot scan I had a few Trojans and rootkits. I moved them to the chest and then the computer became un-bootable. I reinstalled windows and installed MWB and it appeared the problem was fixed. I ran the startup scan again the next day and the report came up with a error that said the virus chest could not be opened. I re started the computer and I got the BLUE screen of death after that the computer would not boot up. I tried to reinstall windows but it it will not allow me to repair the installation now, the drive must be formatted. It is missing the NTLDR and NT detect files. I tried to copy in the recovery mode but it will not accept both of the files. I took the drive out of the laptop and hooked up to my desktop and when opening the drive in explorer all of the folder names are now written in funking unreadable fonts. I ran avast virus cleaner but it is unable to read the files in came up with the error “the filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect”
I ran Test Disk and it says the boot sector is not right . I was able to view through Test disk the my files are still there but I can not move them to a another drive because the drive is UNreadable with windows explorer. Is there any programs out there I can use to fix the drive to save the information and then format it???
Thanks, Bob
Welcome to the forums, mrbob2.
While I can not help you, I hope someone else will respond soon to help you.
Otherwise, you might have to take the drive to a computer repair shop and ask them if they can retrieve the files.
Welcome mrbob2
Is this you in Malwarebytes forum?

I would take the system to a computer repair shop like CharlyO says.
No that is not me in the Malware bytes forum. I can read the hard drive with test disk like I said but I can not retrieve the data. I am a bit of a computer geek and it is frustrating the He## out of me that I can not fix this. I have always been able to fix and build my own computers. I was just hoping to find some tool out here that I could fix the drive so I can extract the files. It does not seem like it is that big of deal unless the virus I destroys the boot sector and makes it un-readable. The drive shows only 10 gig when it is a 60 gig drive. It also seemed that this virus messed with my AVAST protection in a way that the protect was disabled.
Is there a virus out there that changes the font and restructures the file and folder layout??? It also destroyed the boot sector. I ran a program last night called Hirens boot CD. It worked great but without being able to change the folder font to see what that actually are I can not back up the data.
Thanks again for your time and help.
Bob
