I just ran my Avast full scan and there’s an issue, several folders popped up that are quote ‘password protected’ thing is I never password protect my folders so I have a bad feeling that a virus or malware is to blame. The only problem is I have no idea how to fix this or what kind of virus/malware would do something like that. It has me worried, my guess is it’s a trojan downloader but I can’t verify this because avast can’t scan the folders.
Usually password protected files are no problem.
Please post a screenshot.
This is extremely embarrassing but I don’t know how to provide a screenshot, instructions please. Like I said I never set passwords for my folders so seeing that a folder is password protected is not only unusual it’s downright impossible without a virus.
Could you post an example. (The path to a pw protected file.)
Not really I did the dumb thing and closed out the window as soon as I saw it, but the list of folders that avast said were password protected was alarming, so much so to the point where I came on here. As I stated three times now I never password protect my folders specifically. The only thing password protected is our router. However I do remember one thing, the password protected folders were in the system language section of my laptop.
Sorry, but without any example or screenshot we can’t help you.
Note: Some installers (e.g. Flash) password protect their files…
how to take screenshot school
I tried bringing up the log and hinting printscreen then pasting it to paint but it’s like the keyboard doesn’t work no matter how many times I hit it the printscreen won’t go onto the paint program. How do I paste it then my laptop is unusual in that the buttons on the upper part serve two functions. The prntscrn key is the same button that the insert key is on so i’m pretty clueless as to what to do.
Ok I used the snipping tool for this since the prtsc button wasn’t working, mind you I could only do it partially because for some reason maximizing the log caused the snipping tool to be covered up and for me to not be able to capture a screenshot at all. This worries me.
Looks like an Adobe update, nothing to worry about.
Thank you so it’s adobe update huh? Then that explains it, sorry for me panicking it’s just extremely unusual when avast can’t scan a file…but why does adobe update go across so many different folders?
- Don’t worry.
- I don’t see many different folders, just many different files in one folder…
did you use Alt + PrintScreen or shift + printscreen
anyway, you did it
