have to / do not have to

I use Mozilla as the default web browser and mail client, I have IE6 SP1 installed on my machine…
I just want to delete the setup folder of the IE6 SP1 (more than 40MB) and just asking if I am safe with the Win98se default installed IE (in case of reformatting the c: drive )as long as I do not use it as my default web browser or I have to upgrade to the IE6 SP1 and install all the available patches…
i.e.: does Ms-windows (and the same question for avast) uses some component of the IE while I am online even if I did not browse the web with IE?

thanx in advance,…

Using win98, you can remove IE from: control panel, software, add/remove. After removing run a registry cleaner like TheCleaner www.moosoft.com and reboot after it is finished. Or do it as descibed here http://www.cnn.com/TECH/computing/9903/09/removeie.idg/

Mmm,…I dunno…But isn’t “The Cleaner” from Moosoft a dedicated Anti-trojan progam ?

And not a registery cleaner ?

Thanks Mina for your persistence… This is not the first time you try to get this answer… Am I wrong?

Remember, what we know, and as further we know, is that avast! needs some IE components in Windows environments… 8)

you’re correct Tech.
I stopped trusting Ms products weeks ago, that’s why I shifted to Mozilla 1.5…
I also dloaded Open office as well

To not get off-topic, can you send me an email with your opinions about the Open Office? Thanks in advance. No need for hurry. 8)
