Having to turn off outgoing email to be able to send

G’dday

I had a problem sending on Windows Live. On December 1st, I sent an email and it turned up 12 times at my other email address. From then on, I had problems sending. I went to my provider three times over a number of days and to Windows Live email help and performed all the necessary tasks to no avail. Today, after once again going through the motions with my provider, he suggested turning off my anti virus programme, which I did and suddenly I was able to send again. I have turned off Avast on my outgoing mail and now things are back to normal.

I was wondering whether there was a new application in Avast that decided to disable my sending email?

I have high praise for the programme, unobtrusive in general and glad to get the sound of the updates.

Cheers

Just to be clear, you are using pop in Windows Mail, not a web mail, correct?

First, if you are using SSL settings, they need to be disabled in the email client and enabled in avast.

Configure avast mail shield correctly (with the correct email account information).

Finally, delete your firewall rules related to both, avast and your email client. The should be re-created when the respective programs try to connect.

If, as oppose to what I understood from your post, you are using webmail, then please give more details as the problem might be in the web shield instead of the mail shield.

Please report back.
