Help! Avast killed my computer!

I was running Avast and mistakenly thought userinit.exe file was spyware so I removed it.

Now I am unable to login to windows, it just takes me right back to the login screen when I do.

Can’t even login threw safe mode. I did a Windows repair, but the problem still persists.

Avast is still on the computer and blocking userinit.exe from working properly.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I can’t even get into anything right now.

A repair didn’t work???

You might be able to use the recovery console, and copy the file back from the windows CD or another computer, but it’s odd that the repair didn’t put it back for you.

The repair probably put it back but avast is still blocking it.

If windows isn’t running, then avast isn’t running. I can’t think of how avast would be preventing the file from being copied to the system during a repair…

I don’t know what to tell you other than the problem still persists after a repair.

And when I login an avast popup is quickly displayed saying it cant block incoming emails or something then it loops back

So, you can login to windows? Are you able to open up the virus chest, click on the file that was removed, and click, “Restore”?

No I cant login to windows.

I can be at the login screen and try to login, but once i try to login, im immediately taken back out.

How about the recovery console that I mentioned before? Could you possibly copy the file back?

I’m guessing that safe mode does the same? If not, you might try get the file copied back from there. I’m assuming that safe mode is pretty much out of the question at this point though. Userinit has much to do with the login process.

Hopefully, there will be an easy way to get this remedied. However, from what I’ve read on the forum, if there is something important in the virus chest, and you can’t login to windows to restore it, it makes things quite difficult…

Again, hopefully we can get this fixed for ya.

I think when I did the windows repair maybe it put the file back but in the registry, userinit.exe is being misdirected maybe?

I need to somehow get at my registry.
