Help for avast! forum posting composition widgets

Is there a “help” for the web GUI for composing these posts? I tried to post a message in another avast group and found that I needed a font with nonproportional spacing in order to neatly present a list of files and their details. I couldn’t figure out which GUI widgets control the font. There is a button for “Font Face”, which encapsulates selected text with tags to set a “font” attribute to Verdana, but posting itself doesn’t show up any differently. I guessed that Verdana is a font, so I changed it to Arial, then to Courier. These two “experiments” seems to have no effect on the previewed post.

Presentation isn’t something that you are going to get marked on so long as we can understand it. You can put the list of files on a single line no need to have them in a column or correctly spaced.

Have a look at the top of every page for the big HELP text/tab. This, links to the SMF forum help http://forum.avast.com/index.php?action=help and you can then go to the posting section of the forum help, http://forum.avast.com/index.php?action=help;page=post

I agree that presentation isn’t everything, but this is a table of filenames and file attributes. Or rather, it appears tabular if monospacing is used. I figure that the easier I can make a post to read, the more cognitive power and patience is left for the reader to understand and respond to my question.

Thanks for pointing the way to the posting help. I find that when I visit online web help, things are laid out in such a graphically rich way that it’s easy for me to miss something that is sitting right in front of me. I found from the help page that monospacing is achieved by encapsulating with the “pre”. I’m still not sure why the “font” tag isn’t working for me regardless of what common font I specify, but I won’t worry about it because I no longer need it.

A little tip, did you notice how beautifully laid out my image was ;D
So much quicker than trying to format the post.

You can get screen capture software, some of it free, I have been using SnagIt for many years (very easy to use and feature rich), but it is a paid product. Occasionally you see offers or givaways for earlier versions of paid products as a hook to purchase upgrades.

Yes, thanks. I think images are a last resort for text information. Since the posting GUI seems to provide a monospace font, I’ll use that.

I use FastStone Screen Capture free:

Thanks, YoKenny.

or snippy. http://www.bhelpuri.net/Snippy/

Or the snipping tool that’s built-in to Win Vista and 7.

Cool. My new laptop has Windows 7…

Is it 32bit or 64bit ???
You’ll love Windows 7 and IE9 8)

64-bit. I still use FF…and I’m having a bit of trouble with the security (file access and epecially apps launching) between admin and non admin accounts. But yes, there are definite areas of improvement. So far, I’ve kept away from that computer cuz I’m trying to troubleshoot a hardware issue that requires I test hibernation over weeks. Battery drains while hibernating despite deactivating features allowing wake-up from network command and USB charging on standby. Lack of time means I only can give it attention every month or so. So there’s probably lots of getting to know IE and Win 7 that I haven’t been doing. I gotta admit too that the UI hardware design of the laptop is driving me nuts, that’s another factor keeping me away. The laptop has been lauded by others (for its performance, I guess), but I didn’t get it for scientific computing, crunching of data on databases, gaming, or media. I only got it cuz current day normal apps (browsers, etc.) seem to be tripping up my year 2000 laptop. I love the older touchpads and keyboards. With the 64-bit, I also have to figure out XP mode for legacy apps, or just new apps that haven’t been designed for 64-bit.
