i have just got an email from Avast… saying this…It’s usually hard to determine what’s causing avast! to freeze during the scan, so I need two files from you for deeper analysis. Kindly follow these steps:
- Right-click on avast’s blue a-ball icon in system tray and from the menu that appears select “Program Settings…”.
- In left pane, click on REPORT FILE
- Select “Standard program folder” (if not selected already)
- Tick the checkbox beside “OK files” option
- Press OK button
Now run the scan again and wait until it gets stuck (please be patient and really wait until it freezes for sure). Then navigate to the folder C:\PROGRAM FILES\ALWIL SOFTWARE\AVAST4\DATA\REPORT, where you will find report file created during the scan. Its name will be SIMPLE USER INTERFACE.TXT (text document) in most cases. This is the first file I need to receive. It will be large file probably, so I recommend you to compress it to ZIP or RAR archive to minimize its size.
Then:
- Download HiJackThis, save it onto your desktop (http://public.avast.com/~zrubecky/hijackthis.exe)
- Run HiJackThis and select “Do a system scan and save log file”
This will create file called HIJACKTHIS.LOG on your desktop.
Now send me both files (simple user interface.txt and hijackthis.log) as an e-mail attachments. With these files we’ll be able to help you (hopefully).
__The thing is i dont know to navigate to the folder C:\PROGRAM FILES\ALWIL SOFTWARE\AVAST4\DATA\REPORT, where you will find report file created during the scan. i have no idea … sorry but im not a real tech head here, please can you help me how to do this… thanks !!!
