My computer has been taken over by the same thing (using the other family computer now). It has disabled all programs, including my local version of Avast. I can’t download anything, since I can’t open any browsers. The infection warnings are so numerous I can’t get to anything really. Is there a way to open my system in safe mode to get around this program?

You’ll need to follow the instructions in the Bleeping Computer guide, downloading required programs to another computer and saving them to disc or USB.
