OK. I had the free version working on my Windows 7 HP Z400. Now I have paid for the real thing and it just shut down my internet connection!! No browser. No email. I did manage to log in to this help forum, but I could not register because I couldn’t get email. I’m a long time user of Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird.
I had to uninstall Avast to get into the forum to post this. The new installed Avast said I didn’t have a firewall, which is not true. I have the Windows firewall working. What’s wrong with that? It worked with the free version! The help stuff doesn’t give any clue about what’s going on. I’m going to have to ask my IT experts at work to help me figure this out.
I really liked the free version. It warned me about emails not to open. I thought that was great. Maybe I don’t really need the $20 upgrade.
Now the question:
Can I get a refund if we can’t get this to work?
You can leave WindowsFirewall on…Avast works great with Windows Firewall,of course you can turn off, windows firewall,it.s up to you,you may save a few system resources.
How to use AswClear.exe
1.Download aswclear.exe on your desktop
2.Start Windows in Safe Mode
3.Open (execute) the uninstall utility
4.If you installed avast! in a different folder than the default, browse for it. (Note: Be careful! The content of any folder you choose will be deleted!)
5.Click REMOVE
6.Restart your computer
I am having a similar issue. My room mate ran anti virus scan yesterday, now all the desktop icons are gone, the task bar is gone… all he has is the windows wallpaper. This is on an older XP machine, SP3, I am unsure of the avast version.
The only way I can get any icons to come up is to hard boot and go into safe mode. Please help!!!
