Highlight the license key above, then right click on it and select “Copy”
right click the blue “a-ball” in the bottom right corner of the screen, then left click “About avast!”
Left click “License key”
Right click in the empty License Key box then select “Paste”
Click “OK”. Your license key is now inserted and the program can now be used free of charge for a further 12 months.
I cannot follow step 3. When I right click on the avast icon in my ‘startup tray’, as it says, there is no “About avast”, in the dropdown menu of choices. ??? I don’t know where/how to insert the license key from the e-mail without that. Please help?!? Thank you!
I am using avast free home version, WIN XP and IE 8.
The avast icon in my task tray says it is called “avast virus recovery database (VRDB) generator”. The right-click dropdown menu gives me these choices:
What is Avast! VRDB?
Generate VRDB Now!
Generate VDRB when computer is idle.
Generate VDRB only when screen-saver is running (This choice currently has a black circle beside it. I suppose that means it is selected. I do not know why, nor did I select it.)
Disable VDBR generation.
Merge with main avast! icon.
Do I need to insert the license key elsewhere? ???
what kind of of OS do you use i use windows vista and if i go to the top left of the avvast when it is open mine is the secon from the in if you are using some thing different then vista it maybe in a different spot.

Good grief, I finally found it… but I had to be quick! When I click on my avast desktop icon, a small box opens – very briefly – but then disappears and my avast program opens. In that quickly-disappearing first box, I saw the word “Registration”. It took three tries, to click on it before it closed, but I got it. That is where it instructed me to enter the license renewal key. :
This is the ‘i’ icon (the VRDB icon), not the ‘a’ icon (avast one).
To restore back the ‘a’ icon, try to repair your installation:
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove. Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair).
