I know some how who instead of trying to clean “virus ladden” folders decided to move all the system32 files to the chest.
Is there a way to get the files out of the chest and put them back into the system32 folders. I turned off system restore due to the number of virus on the machine and I didn’t to restart restore the machine was clear for a week. It was clear for 2 days.
I have a boot PE disl from the UBCD4Win project that I can use.
THanks
If they are not infected files, you should be able to right-click each file and select restore.
Are the chest files accessible from a boot CD?
Where are the chest files located?
thanks
What file names are you talking about and which section of the chest are they in ?
They are accessible but it would do you no good as from the outside the file names are different to the original file name (so you couldn’t identify it) and files within the chest are encrypted so even if you did manage to guess or otherwise identify the file you wouldn’t be able to use it. So even when windows isn’t running the chest is a protected area.
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\chest
You can only restore files from within the chest (as CharleyO mentioned), by right clicking on the file and selecting restore. However, if they are infected avast would alert again, you could select No Action, but you wouldn’t be able to use the file, every time you tried avast would alert.
