just installed avast and it tells me i hav a virus called system32 but when i try to repair, delete or move to chest it just gives me error messages, what do i do with this file?? please help a very confused and new to using internet user.
What is the exact virusname Avast reports and which windows do you use?
Go to http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ and scan entire hard drive to locate all viruses ect on your hard drive. Then post answers here. 
System32.exe is a worm and will install itself as a running process. you have to disable the task before it can be deleted. press CTL+ALT+Delete and kill the task that says system32.exe, then try to delete the file again. (also look for a process called net32.exe, or SAS.exe) there is a chance it will hide the process, in that case you can download a small freeware task viewer/killer from some place like www.webattack.com and do it that way.
