help please :( some files cannot be scanned

ok first sorry if this is the wrong place and next i am extreamly rubbish with technology
ok so my dads laptop got a virus (no antivirus would work so i had to use system restore)
so now i’m paranoid about my own computer i scanned it using avast and this came up

SOME FILES CANNOT BE SCANNED
c:programme data\microsoft\windows defender\defination updates{7966b3ac-4163-449c-92e2-5d2d40213d51}\mpengine.dll
e:\6f47b7a4c248d0d27759fa1a2b8598b8\mpminisigstub.exe
it says that for status Error: The system cannot find the path specified(3)

what is it, what action should i do?
thanks

One this is avast trying to scan Windows Defenders updates, so it doesn’t look to be something to be concerned about. As for it not being found, my guess would that after the update WD does some housekeeping and clears up after it.

two possibility

  1. the update is not yet finish downloading.

  2. after installation of update the installation not deleted

you don’t have to worry about that.

let us know first what is your operating system(os)

ah thank you both
is the mpminisigstub.exe one the same problem?
also do you know what i should do with them both? move to chest, repair, delete or do nothing?

my OS is windows vista
also i found this in my updates
“Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - November 2010 (KB890830)”
that its already been downloaded and i should install it ???

it cannot be deleted or move to chest. because the installation of kb890830 is not yet finish

KB890830 is the malicious software removal and it is important to window
but if you have cracked OS it alert you that window is not genuine anymore because cracked is malicious software

best regards!!!

Files that can’t be scanned are just that, not an indication they are suspicious/infected, just unable to be scanned.

By examining 1) the reason given by avast! for not being able to scan the files, 2) the location of the files, google search on the file name (see below), you can get an idea of what program they relate to. You may need to expand the column headings to see all the text.

So in this case it is a do nothing.

ah thank you both very much ;D much appreciated

After installation of KB try to scan if it is still there!

AND Welcome to the forum

scanned it after the install and no threat found  thanks again
and thank you ;D
