I’ve got a problem that I just don’t know how to handle and I’m hoping to get some help. I’m running Avast 4.7 the latest version. I just download a day or two ago. I’m on a Gateway PC, circa-2000 with windows 98. Yesterday I run the virus program twice, the first time it ran all the way through my files at around one million and found 6 viruses. Two were successfully removed, but the other 4 could NOT be removed no matter what I tried. The second time I ran the virus program it only went about halfway through my files then mysteriously stopped. It found 2 viruses that (same story) I could not remove.
I tried to remove the viruses using all the options it gives me including, chest, delete, repair and move. I got the very same error message with each attempt, which was this : “results processing”, “An error has occurred during the processing of 1 result (s)”
The files names of the one’s I couldn’t remove are below.
Yes, I AM using windows 98. The one thing that you told me that I’m not understanding is to use “squared trojan remover” ? Could you elaborate on that please ?
I think with the help of my 10 year old son, we can do the other two things you suggested, but I’m not understanding what I’d need to do for the trojan remover…
Thank You very much the help, it’s greatly appreciated !
Guys, I’m having trouble with two aspects of what I was told to do in finding these viruses. I haven’t been able to run a virus scan in safe mode because of my monitor setting. I was having trouble setting the monitor screen area, it was stuck at 640X480 pixels. I was able to download a better driver and get it working and moved up to 800X600 pixels. This allowed me to get the entire page of info on the screen so that I could run the virus program okay.
The trouble I’m having now is that I want to run the virus program in safe mode and when I try to do this, the monitor setting keeps going back to 640X480, thus, I can’t get the whole page loaded on and can’t run the virus program because the buttons that have to be clicked on, are off the page…
The second thing I’m having a hard time figuring out is why when I run a “deep scan” with a-squared, it doesn’t seem to scan ALL my files. It will only scan a little over 67,000 files, whereas, when I run the Avast program, it always goes well over 100,000 files.
The deep scan is suppose to scan ALL files on the computer according to the scanner, but sure doesn’t look that way ! This makes me really nervous that NOT all of the files are getting scanned. This was the reason I abandoned AVG antivirus, because it wasn’t scanning all my files and it allowed viruses in that I ended up catching with a Trendmicro online scan.
Is there anything that might solve these problems ?
You can’t really compare the “number of scanned files”. If you run a scan with “archive scanning” enabled, there are many files found (scanned, and counted) inside of various archives (ZIP, CAB, …).
I don’t know how/if ewido handles archives, but I’m sure it has different capabilities than avast! (other supported formats), so the numbers may certainly differ - but it doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong.
First off, Polonus's link led to a page that had numerous
choices, so did you download the "Anti-Malware 2.0" or
"Free 2.0" ? A-squared has Support forums at :
www.emsisoft.com/en/info/a2/
IF you wish to ask THEM about THEIR program !?
IF I were you, I would be just as concerned, if not more
so, about Microsoft no longer issuing Updates for your
Operating System; it is going to get harder & harder to
protect it as Time goes on. About time for a new OS !?
Spiritsongs, Thanks for the support forum, I’ll ask those guys.
I downloaded the paid version that gives you 30 days free.
I didn’t realize that Microsoft was no longer giving updates for windows 98… that’s really a bummer. Makes you no longer want to support Microsoft by buying anything from them.
