help! win32:neredr

hi, i need help. my avast just caught win32:neredr in my comp. even when i went to the temp folder where it said it was located and manually deleted the file, i’m still continually getting alerts:

Cannot process “C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\FFRRMMY8\wpzzanosop[1].htm\install.exe” file

i just read though an older msg in here about the same virus, but i can’t follow - i’m not very good with computers.

can someone please help?

Why didn’t you choose one of the actions given by avast when detected, move to chest, move/rename, delete, etc. ?
Deletion isn’t really a good first option (you have none left), ‘first do no harm’ don’t delete, send virus to the chest and investigate.

I somehow doubt it is the same virus, just the same file name and this is a common name.

Clear your browser cache/internet temp files first.

If it keeps coming back, there is likely to be an undetected or hidden element to the infection that restores or downloads the file again. What is your firewall ?

If you haven’t already got this software (freeware), download, install, update and run it and report the findings (it should product a log file).

Don’t worry about reported tracking cookies they are a minor issue and not one of security, allow SAS to deal with them though. - See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTTP_cookie.

i tried to delete it and move it - everything and multiple times, nothing worked. i tried as per the advice in the last thread to run the OST program but it just freezes. i restarted my laptop and lost the ability to connect to the internet altogether. maybe the virus has spread…? so i restarted again and now i can’t even log-on as admin, it just freezes. F***K. i’m online now using a different computer. is my only option now to reformat?

Sorry I don’t know what other thread you are talking of, so I’m not sure what OST is, I suspect it is one suggested by essexbox from an OldTimer tool. If so and they are digging out those tools it is for a deeper analysis of what is on your system.
