Im new to this programme, just performed a deep scan which indicated a virus. If i go to the ‘scan results’ box from the ‘scan log’ screen. I see the virus but there is no drop down options (delete, move to chest etc) in the actions box.
The help dialogue informs me there should be.
Ive tried to repair the programme from within the pc control panel
Ive attached a screen shot.
Thanks to all for the replies. Apologies if im asking obvious questions… If the problem is in fact Spybot, is the general consensus that this should not be installed alongside Avast (or any anti virus). As Spybot does not run in the background but only when opened shouldnt this therefore not be a problem?
@ Para Noid - why would the combo you suggested be ok to use (assuming the combo of Spybot and Avast is not ok)?
@ady4um - no, i cant select anything, its simply a line of text
It, in the case of your original question, it isn’t the fault of S&D, just that you have elected to do a custom scan and to scan memory, which can return unexpected results. e.g. finding unencrypted signatures of other security based applications loaded into memory.
The majority of the issues relating to problems with avast comes from the Teatimer, which can be disabled. But that doesn’t take away from the fact that S&D doesn’t appear to be keeping pace with modern malware and why MBAM (free) as a secondary on-demand anti-malware scanner to compliment avast.
To OP, yes S&D is not keeping up with modern free anti-malware/spyware such as MBAM and SAS and the general concensus is to dump it. It has in the passed conflicted with Avast! and other popular and free versions of resident AVs especially because of the Teatimer, I think it still conflicts with some if not all other resident AVs and since it is not as good you don’t need it.
You can still install S&D if you really are still devoted to it, but do so without choosing the Teatimer or stop running the Teatimer, (if that works) I forget if you can choose not to install it as a part of S&D or if you have to disable it afterwards.
With Avast! Free and a good enough Firewall or the paid Pro/AIS all you really need is the free versions of MBAM and SAS as on-demand scanners.
