Help with Win32 Powessere Virus Removal

Hello,

My computer was running extremely slow. Webroot Virus software was installed. The software identified a “threat”, but didn’t specify what the threat was.

Installed Malwarebytes and it located and removed PUP.Optional.SearchDonkey, PUP.Optional.InstallBrain, and PUP.Optional.SaveValet.

Installed Microsoft Security Essentials and it located Trojan:Win32/Powessere.A!reg and two of Exploit:SWF/CVE-2014-0515.B. MSE claimed removal was successful.

Ran MSE a second time and it located Trojan:Win32/Powessere.A!reg, Rogue: Win32/FakeRean, and Rogue: JS/FakeAlert. MSE claimed removal was successful.

Ran MSE a third time with the same results as the second time.

Malwarebytes was ran again and showed no threats.

Attempted to install Avast by CD after downloaded from another computer without success.

Logs from Malwarebytes, FRS64, and aswMBR are attached.

Thanks

The CVE-2014-0515.B has been patched by Adobe over 6 months ago.
Time that you update Flash (and perhaps also) other installed applications/plugins etc.

Before you install Avast you must uninstall Webroot

Hello,

Please see the attached logs.

Thanks for your help

How is the computer behaving now ?

It seemed to be running faster last night, but I have not connected it back to the internet. I wanted to avoid potential issues in case the virus was still present and I was waiting on further instructions.

I can try connecting to the internet later today if that is the next step?

Thanks

Yes connect to the net as I believe I have killed it all

: Keep Java Updated :

WARNING: Java is the #1 exploited program at this time. The Department of Homeland Security recommends that computer users disable Java
See this article

I would recommend that you completely uninstall Java unless you need it to run an important software.
In that instance I would recommend that you disable Java in your browsers until you need it for that software and then enable it. (See How to diasble Java in your web browser and How to unplug Java from the browser)

If you do need to keep Java then download JavaRa
Run the programme and select Remove Java Runtime. Uninstall all versions of Java present
Once done then run it again and select Update Java runtime > Download and install Latest version
