this latest feature update has removed the search bar from the photos app and i am unable to find a way to bring it back
If you are referring to the search bar in the Photos App located on the top left of the App, my search bar is present now.
Installing the latest Win Cumulative .Net Framework (3.5/and 4.eight) update (KB4511555) and see how that affects the Photo App.
Edit: No difference after Cumulative .Net Framework update
In the process of installing Cumulative Update for Win 10 (KB 4512941)
That’s for .net framework, not sure if that would impact on the search bar. But I’m just about to restart.
That’s done and the Photos icon is in my search bar and appears to be functioning, although I have never actually used it.
Well, both updates were installed (separately) and along with DavidR’s check, I also can confirm my search bar is intact and working normally.
I am unaware of how one would go about ‘returning’ the Search Bar.
I don’t have a search function as you can see here,

did those 2 windows updates and the search bar is still missing from the photos app.
and avast suddenly rung up the photos app as a virus
AM I missing something?

also after these 2 updates the search bar on the task bar now doesnt work
and cortana seems to be constantly using alot of CPU
looking at reddit im not the only one
but back to the photos app, the search bar used to be where the arrow is pointing but is no longer there
I can confirm unusually excessive CPU issue now with Cortana on one machine still.
Something seems whacky with this latest Win update :-\
I have managed to fix the issue with the CPU load. In the past i had manually disabled cortana using the registry, re enabling cortana has fixed this issue. Still no photos app search bar though.
the registry entry is HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Search “cortanaconsent” and “BingSearchEnabled” changing both of these from 0 to 1
