Help

I would like some help on how to set this program up. I have used the search feature and can’t seem to find how how.

Hi fungranny and welcome to the avast family,

It’s not clear where you’re having problems – can I assume you can start the program OK and the interface (Status screen)? If so, right-click anywhere on that and select Settings from the menu, and you’ll find most of what you’re looking for.

Most of the default settings are just fine, at least to start out with – let us know if there’s specific areas you’d like help with.

Best,
Mike

Oh gosh well I left things the way they were when I installed this. But now I find that something isn’t set up correctly because I get a message after I scan that says oh gosh I closed it…but can’t scan because of settings…I have done tons of scans since I installed this in March and that log is very very long…42056 error I looked and looked but couldn’t find out why I got that.

I am an old lady and removed AVG for this program but if it can’t scan everything I worry.

Is this the same fungranny from Paltalk? If so,well hello from me and welcome to the wonderful world of Avast forums. Let me log into paltalk and you can give me a hollar.

Oh gosh howdy yes it is…maybe you can help me with this program…

Why don’t you open the log file, select all the contents, delete, run a new scan and then see the log file again…?

This will ‘empty’ your log file and with the last one you can post your problems and/or doubts…

Wellcome

Okay great I will do that…and Bagmaster thanks my friend. Live is much better then this LOL

Well Bagmaster is busy now so where is this log file located at?

Probably, C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\Data\Report
We are talking about reports not logs (sorry my mistake).
The name of the file will be the name of the task that you run.

Okay now I sure hope I got the right one looked like it…I did file select all and delete…I will let you know if that worked LOL If no I will cry here.

In Settings, there’s an option for Reports to Overwrite previous report. If you select that, it’ll save only the most recent results each time so the report file doesn’t accumulate and grow into a monster.

There might be times, of course, when you’ll want a more complete history for tracking down problems. But the vast majority of the time, just the current report will do fine.

  :)Thanks now I think it’s fixed…I really appreciate the help…good to know that people do care after you install a program. I really like this program…

Oh gosh one more question please…when I download something using another program which exe file do I use to have it scanned prior to installing it?

try this…

you will get a lot more info if you search for ashquick…

So no need if this fine program does all that for me well isn’t that great! ;D

Thank you so much for all the help…

no worries and welcome to avast forums… ;D

She found me on Paltalk, she was having the same old problem of through scan not scanning archived files and needed to know how to turn it off.

Oh dear this morning I can it and now I get 42016 something about setup??? oh man alive ???

42016 means “File was not tested due engine configuration details” - I guess it says the file was not recognized by EXE/DOC/… content and it’s not necessary to scan it. Avoid reporting it to your logs, you can look at task’s properties (-> Report tab).

Well what should be checked I have Report File a check in Crete Report file Overwrite existing Task Start Task Stop Hard Errors Skipped Files Infected Files and Text file ??? So I guess I am confused…isnt this program suppose to scan everything incase? I mean I don’t know of course would just think if it’s working and has scanned everything once then that wouldn’t be necessary…but if it hasn’t could something be inside one of those things it didn’t scan?
