help

avast find viruses but it can’t delete them. the files are in E:/recycler…

What can i do?? do you think i can solve the problem on my own or i have to call an expert??

What reason is give for not being able to deal with them ?

What was the virus name ?

What is your OS ?
Have you tried empting your recycle bin on E:.

i have windows xp, where i can find the recycle bin of e:???

Using windows explorer, see image.
Also emptying the Recycle Bin (desktop icon) should clear all recycle bins.

However, your system is likely to be different to mine and the E: drive or partition on mine is my Optical drive (DVD/CD drive) is your E: a partition of your hard disk (perhaps hidden) ?

Also the word you used E:\recycler is different, I don’t know if this simply a language difference or another program that provided a recycle bin/recycler like Norton AV.
What is the windows OS language version you use ?
Have you ever had Norton AV on this system ?

Sometimes, only using Unlocker (http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/) or Delete FXP (http://www.jrtwine.com/) you can delete files that, for any reason, have a bad ‘signature’ in the Master File Table (MFT).

Some files could be removed following How to Remove Files with Reserved Names in Windows XP.

after having emptied the recycle bin avast don’t find viruses now…

do you think the problem is solved???

It certainly looks that way but since you didn’t mention the virus name or the full file name/s we can’t say if there might be something else around, but it seems that some viruses are placing their files in the recycle bin in the hope of avoiding checking, etc.

If you have the virus and file names (avast Log Viewer, Warning section) ?
Then it would be possible to do a google search on them to try and find if there are any other areas we/you should look, e.g. registry, etc.

No… If I were you I’ll do the following:

  1. Disable System Restore on Windows XP: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;[LN];310405
  2. Clean your temporary files (browser and Windows).
  3. Schedule a boot time scanning with avast. Start avast! > Right click the skin > Schedule a boot-time scanning. Select for scanning archives. Boot.
  4. Use a-squared, ewido or Spyware Terminator (trojan removers).
