HELP!!!

G’morning, everyone!!!
This my first time here…so, please bare with me if my question sound a bit dumb to you all pros.
I’ve purchased Avast Pro.Security 4.8 last year…the license expires late December, 2010.

I tried updating my Avast to tne new 5.0 trial version (it won’t accept my license ID), so I downloaded/installed it to my laptop (Dell XPS), Window Vista op. system. Afterwards, an error message came up about ‘RPC ERROR’ (?)

I then tried following ‘Frequent asked questions’ on this site’s instruction on how to correct this error, to no avail; 'cuz on the left side of ‘My Computer’, I couldn’t locate ‘MANAGE’ tab. period.

I then, tried un-install 5.0 from my pc…and re-intall it again. Error message came on…said 'security software not compatible with Window Vista, although I could not find evidence of it on AVAST anywhere or online.

Now, I am stuck with re-installing 4.8 with original dvd…unfortunately, it has no indication of my purchased license.on this disk, when I entered the written down license # it came up ‘not valid’.

Question:

  1. is it true that Avast 5.0 Pro not compatible with Window Vista?

  2. How do I go about acquiring my 4.8 license ID #, as my email address doesn’t seem to be valid to AVAST either? without having to do away with 6months worth of subscription already been paid when I purchased it?

Any helpful suggestions are very much appreciated.

Jaxie

  1. No it isn’t true, avast 5.0 is compatible with XP, Vista and Win7 32&64bit versions.

  2. the old key won’t work but you can get it converted:

  • avast! 5 Pro license convert from 4.8 Pro license. Try http://www.avast.com/resend-license.php now, fill in the form giving your email and 4.8 Pro License key and they will send the new license file to you (presumably it will check you have a legit 4.8 Pro license first).
'cuz on the left side of 'My Computer', I couldn't locate 'MANAGE' tab. period.

The manage button is only visible if you, “Right-Click” the “My Computer” icon. A list should show up and “Manage” will be an option.
