hiberfil.sys causing BSODs?

Hello guys,

I have a problem with unexpected system restarts in the middle of doing nothing. Sometimes there appears BSOD screen, sometimes it is just simple restart. Funny thing is that it never happens when CPU is overloaded, usually I have iTunes turned on and browser at the time of system crash. I had noted down BSOD BCCode which was 124 and according to the internet knowledge it was indicating maybe some memory issue. So I tested memory for 3 hours with MemTest and my RAM has passed all the tests without any error.

Here comes the main issue - then I did full scan with Avast and it showed some problem with hiberfil.sys file. Avast was unable to take any kind of the actions even in boot mode so I decided to disable hibernation in Elevated Command Prompt. It worked for a while, but today system crashed again and I would love to share my scan logs with you to see if there is still some naughtiness in my system. I’m quite aware that maybe the problem is hardware, but firstly I want to make sure that it isn’t just some system infection.

I will be really grateful for help.

Even if I don’t use it for benefiting from “Pirate’s Bay” treasure?

You are still at risk whether you use it or not.
