High CPU usage by avastsvc.exe when renaming .exe-files

This is a question I ask for a buddy:

Since shortly (~ 1 Week) there occurs a high CPU-Usage (20-92%) caused by AvastSvc.exe for 5-10 seconds when renaming .exe files.
CPU-Usage and duration are dependent from usage and programs running at that time. Mostly it’s only the browser running, occasionally 2 or 3 other progs.
Desktop is unusable for those 5 to 10 sec.

Except for this particular behavior with this particular action of renaming .exe-files there there seems to be nothing wrong.

  • Avast! Free V6.0.1203, standard-configuration
  • Vista Home Basic 32Bit SP2
    -FJS Esprimo Mobile V5515
    -Intel Celeron M @1,6 GHz.
    -512 MB DDR2 RAM

This just shows like since a week. Nothing has been installed on the pc within the last 8 to 10 weeks, nothing has been changed.

Image and System Restore Points are available if need be.
