High CPU usage & Mouse stall when using skype

Hello.

I have been having this problem for the past 2 weeks or so
Whenever I navigate away from and back to a skype window the AvastSvc.exe peeks at around 50% CPU usage and the whole system freezes. This goes around for about 15-20 seconds and then all is back to normal

I am using Windows XP SP3 on a Packard Bell desktop computer with no wireless (cabled network, keyboard and mouse)
I have Spybot S&D v2 installed (currently 2.1.18.0)
My Free Avast version is 2015.10.0.2208 and I’ve had it since I reinstalled the system 2 years back
Skype version is 7.1.0.105

Any ideas?
