high cpu usage

had this problem for a loong time. avast uses like 60/70% cpu usage.
help?

  • Which avast!..?? (Free/Pro/IS/Premier)
  • Which version…??
  • OS…?? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP…?)
  • Other security related software installed…??
  • Which AV(s) did you use before avast!..??

Same here - I dumped AVG et al and 20%- 30% usage for Avast that gobbles UP TO 100% at times. How can I tell? every time it gets above 60% in task manager I stop the program via the user interface and watch as the usage goes down. When I am off line it is practically nil.
Not unusual for web pages to take 10-20 seconds to load and for 7-8 second lags when I click in something.
While in the midst of a recent shopping experience it took 7 minutes for a response - as soon as I stopped Avast I got a response but by that time the page had timed out and I had to start over.
I am running win XP, IE9.
Avast version 130922-0 / 8.0.1497, dated 9/22 (today).
I am really dissapointed BUT you guys have helped me decide to get a Macbook and then you are just another puff of wind.
PLUS I wont have to worry about the pending support ending for XP next April. I was willing to upgrade to the pay version but you blew it.
My wife’s Macbook screams and I am jealous.

Rurik,

When I am off line it is practically nil.
That is a strong indication webtraffic is causing the problem. Can it be avast causing the delay? Sure, it can but it doesn't have to be. But why not try to solve the problem? You can get the same problem on a MacBook as well and with any software.

Avast has issues with web filtering? for sure.

This seems to have been fixed with v2014 beta 3.
Webpages load infinitely faster and beta 3 is very stable.
