Avast recently upgraded and now AvastSvc.exe uses about 70% CPU usage (csrss uses the other 30%) After uninstalling it, downloading the current version today and installing the problem still persists.
Is there a way to get the older version (2014.9.0.2021) which works great, or how do we fix this problem in the new version?
I did a clean install from the version I downloaded yesterday, so there is nothing to “repair” and it is the current version. Because of the high CPU usage I am unable to launch it to see what the exact version is.
Same here. Version 2233 ate up the CPU, computer froze (especially while browsing, regardless of browser used). Had to hard reboot. Rolled back to 2218, no problems at all!
I had the same problem with the same OS and SP so eliminated Avast and cleaned out the Registry and installed 2021 (it’s always worth keeping an older version ).
I’d usually get an old version from FileHippo but, in this case it seems to offer a d/l of 147MB and that’s too big for v9.
If you want to try it’s at: http://filehippo.com/download_avast_antivirus/58011/
Another one (marked green by WOT) is FileHorse http://www.filehorse.com/download-avast-antivirus/17244/
but I’d check the site and d/l first.
I have an i7 4720HQ that can run at a max of 3.6ghz and it even lags down my computer. It can get up around 30% and start stuttering and slowing down my performance in FL Studio, which if you’ve ever had any issue like that while producing music, it is a real pain. I’ve been tempted to disable shields until I’m done working with FL or playing games, but what is the point of paying for an antivirus if you are going to have to do that kind of stuff to keep your computer running smoothly? All I’m looking for it a way that I can prevent these real time, orb spinning scans from slowing down my PC. Thanks!
