I am not able to delete the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\AVAST Software I get "Cannot Delete - Error while deleting key
The Avast uninstaller utility didn’t work. I am seeking some expert assistance on how to uninstall this key. Thank you.
Try disabling Avast Self-Defense temporarily.
If Avast isn’t installed try booting from Windows installation media and instead of installing open regedit and load hive and edit.
That would however mean that a component of Avast is still on your system and running. That would also need to be deleted, after which you might be able to just delete the key in regedit without the need to boot from external media.
Thank you for this response. Your suggestions/instructions are beyond my knowledge. I don’t understand how to do this and do not want to cause issues with my PC since I honestly don’t know how to do what you are suggesting.
These are the messages from the popup boxes when I right click on the Avast Software folder in the registry editor.

Avast cannot be opened. An error is preventing this key from being opened. Details: The system cannot find the file specified.
Is Avast installed or not. And what version?
You could try re-installing Avast, then uninstalling it, and then try running the Avast Clear utility again.
That should remove most keys. And if no component of Avast remains, you should be able to delete register keys with regedit.
Avast is not installed and the Avast removal tool doesn’t work. Please see attached screenshot.
I used the Avast Uninstaller in safe mode and it took care of the problem. I thank you for your responses and suggestions. It is appreciated.
