The best place to answer that is to ask here https://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=4.0
Does anyone know if avast can handle the Holpage Virus? It is not a virus but a PUP = Possible Unwanted Program
avast pup detection is default off, exept for in boot scan
I recomended removing PUP using Malwarebytes and AdwCleaner
Hi Pondus,
With PUP detection on avast detects this right away as Win32:BrowseFox-BM [PUP]. See: http://www.herdprotect.com/holdpage.browseradapter.exe-a96402c22136bce2087f03e2513e410a0611dedb.aspx
Only on some holdpage related finds avast does apparently not detect this Adware.
Use DrWeb checker there, as DrWeb almost finds all that avast does not detect and v.v.
I like their cross detection, as this one is missed by DrWeb’s but checked by avast! as PUP detection, see: http://www.herdprotect.com/holdpageuninstall.exe-f42cf3ab2eb8731d2574874b9a65a32d8253482a.aspx
Always thought it was a good idea to add the DrWeb extension detection to avast"s residential detection. combined with BitDefenderTrafficLight extension you will scarcely miss something in a pre-scan from within your browser…

An added bit of advice:
Never use a download manager suggested or pushed by the site where you get your downloads.
All of them also offer a direct download. It’s the direct download that should always be selected.
The direct download button is usually the small button under the large download button.

That is the adwcleaner download. If MBAM and Adwcleaner don’t clean it, report back as we can also remove it manually.
