Just upgraded to 5 from 4.8 and the red x is on the icon, i try to click fix now but nothing happens, i also try start program nothing happens.
uninstalled and reinstalled and rebooted various times. even tried to re install 4.8 but then at the final stages of the installation it says there was an error in the installation. not sure that the deal is here. all was fine up till now.
in the admin services i cannot get it to start there either.

give us your error report which reported to you in the end of installation,hijack this will be good too,may be because of a malware that happen to you

Well that was for version 4.8 now 5 is on but won’t start. error 1053 seems something else is going on.
Have you tried a repair of avast?
To do a repair of avast :
Control panel > Add/remove programs > click once on avast to select it > click on Change/Remove > scroll down the left pane and click on repair > click OK> follow directions
I had to uninstall Avast in safe mode and then reinstall it. It appears that there isn’t any problems now. In the ‘Knowlegebase’ no where did I see the problem I was having.
