When I reset my PC to a previous date via “Wiederherstellungspunkt” (“restoration point” in English?) it doesn’t work because “ … an anti-virus programm is running”. Therefore this must be stopped before and then opened again. It should be easy - how can it be done?
First, I’m an Avast user and not an Avast Team member.
In a way I’m not surprised as setting a date to an earlier date, could look like a malicious act to an AV. Avast also has a self-defence to protect it against malicious acts.
You could try right clicking on the Avast tray icon in the Task Bar, select > Avast Shield Control > Disable for 10 minutes.
However, I suspect that may not circumvent the self-defence protection. Something else that could get in the way, given virus definitions are constantly updated and program updates, it could screw (technical term) that up.
Thank you, @DavidR, for your help. I will try it next time !!!
You’re welcome.
Hopefully it will work out without any undue consequences mentioned.
You can also try disabling self-defense.
Menu->settings->troubleshooting->uncheck “enable self-defense”
I don’t think that disabling (only) avast shield control (all shield) disables self-defense.(which is an additional independent layer?)
Thanks @chris,
the German version of “Avast free” must be different from the English one. I have no “Avast shield control” as DavidR tells and no “troubleshooting” in the settings as you recommend !?!?!?
The German “Help” states that there is a green line in the “Settings - Basis Protect Mode” but there is NO “Basis Protect Mode” in my settings …?!?!?
Maybe only in the Premium version?
The Core Avast Settings in the User Interface (UI) should be the same, but the language corresponding to your country.
From the Open User Interface, click the Three bars (Menu) > Settings > General > Troubleshooting > Enable Self-Defence. See image (English language version though it should be the same.
If it were different it would be a big overhead for maintenance and updates.
What Avast Version are you using ?
The above image is from Avast Antivirus Free.
Thousend thanks, @DavidR!
Now I got it !!! If a German speaking User reads here, I write the sequence in German:
Menu - Einstellungen - Allgemein (linke Spalte oben) - Fehlerbehebung (ganz unten) - Selbstschutz aktivieren (hier deaktivieren und nachher wieder aktivieren)
Best regards from Vienna, Austria!
Forgot to inform:
Program Version 25.10.10528a
Install Version 25.10.9955
User Interface 1.0.848
Thanks for the interpretation - yes it can be confusing.
That was why I included the image and highlighted the sections (the positions should be the same) that you could hopefully follow.
