How can I save the results of a scan? Where is the log file?

I am using Avast Internet Security, version 6.0.1000.
All I want to do is save the results of the scan.

I also searched for a log file, but didn´t find any. Does the program store a log file? Where?

Is it in text format?

I also tryed to copy (ctrl-c + ctrl-v) from the results, but nothing on the windows clipboard.

  1. Yes. It depends on your OS. Search for e.g.: ‘WebShield.txt’, you’ll find the other logs there.
  2. Yes.

Avast! scan Report File Locations

  • C:\Documents And Settings\All Users\Application Data\Alwil Software\Avast5\report (Windows 2000, Windows XP). Or C:\ProgramData\Alwil Software\Avast5\report (windows Vista, windows 7).

Or after clean install of avast 6:

  • C:\Documents And Settings\All Users\Application Data\Avast Software\Avast\report (Windows 2000, Windows XP). Or C:\ProgramData\Avast Software\Avast\report (windows Vista, windows 7).

Note: You have to have to select Generate report file option checked:
From the avastUI, Scan Computer, select the specific scan you are doing, More Details, Settings, Report File, see image1.

This will create a report file of the same name as the scan in the default folder location unless you change it (the * to the full path and file name you want), see image2.

Don’t forget to set your report settings under Settings—Report File----Reported Items for each scan type.

 All the answers were very helpfull; thanks a lot.

Asyn: My OS is Windows XP SP3

I found ‘WebShield.txt’ on

Application Data\Alwil Software\Avast5\report

But, this record does not show the virus found.

DavidR and Nesivos:

As I mencioned, I´m using Avast Internet Security, version 6.0.1000. I don´t know why, but I do not have the same interface (see attachments).

I really would like to set my settings to make detailed reports.

When I click on “settings” I only have these options:

Basic
Updates
Popups
Virus Chest
Virus Alerts
Exclusions
Password
Silent/Gaming Mode
Status Bar
Language
Sounds
Maintenance
Community
Troubleshooting

In all of these above options, the only one that allow some feature of log is “Maintenance”, BUT for “debug logging”.

It is unchecked.

Ps.: I found a file named “Full system scan.txt” with 2.006.560 KB and could not open it with notepad, nor notepad++.

WordPad takes a long time, but opened.

I see in this topic (http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=62342.0) that I can delet it. But why it became so big?

You’re welcome…!
It depends on the log-level. Maybe you set it to log also clean files…!!!

@ marcopivetta
The reason you don’t see or have the same interface is you aren’t looking at the same area.

My image was for the actual scan settings, having opened one of my Scan Computer, Scan now option and not the Scan logs of your image. The Scan logs will only show existing logs, my image shows how to enable the creation of the log and giving it a name or location other than the default location.

My second image is from windows explorer not avast showing the various report/log files and where they are located.

You SOLVED my doubt!!! (and there is a long time I remain in the darkness, because of this…)

I didn´t realize that ONLY CUSTOM SCANS SHOULD MAKE A REPORT.

I think this information is very important and it´s not so clear in the first interface. It should be reported to the designers of the software.

Anyway THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH. I really appreciate this forum. Very professional. ;D

You’re welcome.

However, you can have a report for all avast scans, Quick, Full System Scan, etc. you just have to click on the More Details option to expand the window and then on the settings link to generate the report file see the image I posted originally.

Your image is after a scan so you won’t see the settings until you click the OK button closing/ending that scan. Now the Scan Settings option and Report file will be available.
