If you use the same monitor (video) configurations, it shouldn’t make difference.
In my notebook, I need to use (I’m ought to… :'() 1024x768… can’t go further, but the image is centered both in Vista and Kubuntu…

I don’t want to change resolution, I want to center Ubuntu in my screen. It is off to the right of my screen.
Hmmm… Why? I had problems with Kubuntu detecting hardware and returning black screens, but never had a non-centered Kubuntu… Maybe you can test Ubuntu forums… Sorry, can help you on this.
