How Do I Ignore A False Positive?

Sometimes I receive a false positive from Avast.
I get a drop down box, but there is no option to ignore.
I have to let the file go to the Virus Chest, then retrieve it from there.
There must be a simpler way.

How do I make it simpler and less cumbersome?

Thanks…

Report it to avast :

Thanks for your reply, but is that the answer? Contact Avast?

I still can’t get past the screen if I choose to report it to Avast.
And the path that it defaults to isn’t even correct. Too many problems and very cumbersome.

Yes, if it is indeed a false positive avast need to know about it so they can fix it.

But what makes you believe it is a false positive ?
What file(type) is it ?

Once again Eddy, thanks for your reply.

I don’t wish to go into what file it is etc because we are getting off the reason I am posting this question and over months this problem appears now and then.
The fact is, in my opinion, there should be an option to ignore at the user’s discretion. Even Windows Defender has this option.

Avast for as long as I have been using it, over eleven and a half years has not allowed a single click option to ignore a detection and allow it to run. I don’t think they are going to change that any time soon.

However the latest versions of avast are making it a little easier, but it still requires a deliberate act to allow it to run. Right click on the Avast tray icon > Virus Chest > right click on the offending file > select Restore and Add to exclusions. From the virus chest it is possible to send the the virus labs for analysis.

If it truly an FP then it will result in the signature detection being changed and that not only helps you but all other avast users that may use that file.

Thanks for your help, guys.

I guess this is just a limitation of this antivirus.

You’re welcome.

With 230+ millions users I think avast is taking the safety first option rather than convenience for more experienced users. A pain for more experienced but a disaster for lessor experienced users clicking a single click ignore option occidentally.
