Bob’s images clearly shows the Stop Scan, but you go on to say “This is what appears when I click Custom Scan.” That isn’t going to Stop the Scan, I just started a Smart Scan and shortly after that clicked the Stop Scan and it stopped it…
If you can’t actually see the Smart Scan running screen of his image, if you minimised/closed the scan window, then try looking at the avast tray icon it should be animated. I hovered over that and it showed a small toaster screen with the Smart Scan running, when it completed it then allows you to see the details.
Edit: if the scan is still running there should be a Stop Scan button in the window.
A video isn’t really necessary, a still of the screen would be fine.
OK Well it finally finished on its own. As you can see from the video, there was no Stop Scan button visible. The video was necessary to show that after clicking on every possible button in the scan screen, there was no option to stop the scan.
I’m not seeing the video, it won’t run. I don’t particularly like having to go to a 3rd party site to get information that really should be in the topic (but the forum software doesn’t accept video files).
If I start a Smart Scan and then close the UI, I can open the UI again by clicking on the avast tray icon. I then clicked the Smart Scan again and it displays the Smart Scan that is in progress. If I happen to click the ‘Show Progress’ button it shows the original view of the smart scan, that has the Stop Scan button.
In the video, you hit the cancel that’s the same as stopping it but you need to wait till the process actually stops.
In the video, you started on scan after another.
At the start of the video, there is a custom scan running taking up the CPU resources.
At the end of the video, there is still a custom scan running taking up the CPU resources.
I clicked on every button on the scan page.
What button was I supposed to click to stop the scan? And how would I access it?
You closed the small window that showed the process which continued the scan in the background.
To reopen that window, simply reopen the main user interface:
This was the only thing that appeared when I double clicked the avast icon during that scan. It was the first window I saw when I tried to stop the scan, so I would have immediately seen the stop scan option.
Silent mode means don’t bother me. Don’t interrupt me.
You use it at your own peril as you found out.
Yes you don’t see any pop ups but, you also don’t see any pop ups for things that you need to pay attention to.
Next time you want to start a scan, first shut down silent mode.
