how do I turn avast OFF!!!

How in the hell do I turn Avast off? Not just turn off the parts but ALL OF IT? And DO NOT tell me what you all say every time someone asks this. “its not safe” and no one ever gives an answer.

Hello and welcome to the Forum!

Rightclick avast! tray icon → avast! shields control → select the time you want to disable shields

DJBone

I would like to really turn it off. Do I really have to uninstall it? I’m getting more and more tired of using avast.

You can only disable the shields temporarily, if you want it off completely then you’ll have to uninstall it.

It’s your computer and your choice.

Right click Avast icon > avast! shields controls > turn off Permanently

or you could uninstall avast if you want it off 100% ;D

Shields might be off but avast is still running

Not if you uninstall it as Coolmario88 stated.

That would be obvious  it’s also what I posted in reply 3

The real question is why the OP wants to turn it off.
Do you have a problem stupid?
If so, what is the exact problem?

Sorry Eddy but that attitude certainly isn’t what the Avast forum is known for or, what I tell those
I see during my presentation what they can expect when asking a question on this forum. :frowning:
My apologies to Eddy,
I didn’t realize that OP chose the Username of stupid.
Certainly makes me feel stupid… :-[

YOu’re not stupid. But, the question remains, why do you want to turn Avast! off? Is it the notices? You can disable those or at least make them appear for a second then go bye bye. Even that, I don’t get many pop-ups.

Edit: Screwed up the Quotes sorry. Thanks Pondus

I personally never turn of my protection.
I’ve also never run into a situation where leaving avast! running has prevented something
from working or installing.
If avast! is too “noisy”, make it more “quiet”:

I need to run a few updates and move some stuff. One of the updates is java and you cant do anything with java if avast is running.

There is no need to turn off avast if you want to update other applications.
The updates (including java) will work with avast on.

What happens if you go there and try to get/install the latest version?
Any error, if so which one?

Java SRE 7u 55 is for XP. Java 8u 5 is for Win7 and 8. You do not say what OS are you running.

Use the offline installer, save it to your desktop and close your browser or anyother program running when executing the installer:

7u 55: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jre7-downloads-1880261.html

8u 5: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jre8-downloads-2133155.html

Still need to have Avast closed to update jave or remove older version of java…

Do as iroc says or

  • choose the online installer.
  • do NOT choose save, but choose run when it is asking you.
  • as soon as you seen the first screen of the installer, close your browser start installing.
  • do NOT choose to install the ask.com toolbar.

That is weird. I am running Java 7u 55 because a program I have needs it otherwise I would have ditched it a long time ago. However, I always update manually as per instructed above and never never get that warning.
