How do I turn off avast temporarly.

Reason is that I can no longer get Microsoft updates to run so I wrote to Microsoft and they have come back with several suggestions. The one I’m into now tells me to first shut down my antivirus temporarly.

I would consider that Microsoft Bull.
I’ve never come across any program that actually requires turning off avast!.
avast! is always running and there aren’t any problems receiving auto updates from MS.

It was that way while I had XP, Vista and now Windows 7.

They are not saying that avast is the culpit. They want me to run their virus checker and can’t have another antivirus running at the same time. I’ve checked all over avast and can’t see anywhere to close it. Thanks

right click the orange ball by the clock, and disable shields for 10min or more…

Thanks.

avast shouldn’t be interfering with Microsoft updates.
When they don’t correct their problems, they blame elsewhere…

I think there is some missunderstanding. MS never said that avast is the case of the update problem. The just said they wanted me to run their antivirus program and didn’t want another antivirus program running at the same time so they said to turn off avast temporialy. I’ve still got their antivirus running. My problem is solved tho as I just had Windows 7 installed and everything is running ok. I was going to install it sometime in the future so this just pushed me to do it sooner and all is well. But I have another question. Since Windows 7 removed avast I want to put it back and dumb me can’t recall if it was home or professional. How can I ask avast what I had so I don’t have to pay for another one. I looked up avast on the net and it says free download but I’m sure I paid for what I had. Bad memory. Thanks

bexar656, MSE and avast will conflict sooner or later.
Why am I surprised that MS says such a technical mistake? ::slight_smile: ::slight_smile:
