Hi Pete!
It depends on which program you use for your emails…
Leftclick the avast!-symbol in the taskbar… → a window opens where you click on “Details” in the lower right corner → choose the “Mail” provider in the left box → “Customize” → click on the “SMTP” tab → untick the “test outgoing mails” → “OK”
Then go to the “Outlook/Exchange” provider → “Customize” → tab “Scanner” → untick “check outgoing messages” → go to the tab “Outgoing messages” → untick “Check files when attached” → “OK” → “OK”
(The names can be different as I translated them from German to English…)
I hope this works.
kind regards

I would ask the question, why do you want to do this ?
If it is because of a problem, then perhaps we can resolve it.
The reason my I say this is that the outbound email scan, could be your first indication that you have an undetected or hidden (some are hidden by rootkit) trojan spambot. Since avast scans outbound smtp traffic to port 25, the spambot doesn’t use your email program but its own (small one) and that would be scanned by avast.
Hi mongrelpete,
I have to agree with DavidR here, the outbound scan is very useful. In the time that I have used avast!, I have only had one infection (not my fault ;)) and it was the outbound scanner that saw the many emails going out. If I didn’t have the mail scanner I would have not even known about it.
As DavidR said already a problem could be resolved of you are having trouble…

thanks Boys the problem I had is resolved
Pete
You’re welcome,
However, what was the problem and how was it resolved as this could help others ?
I had a problem with a Footy Tipping program I use, when I had to send out the tipping sheets, Avast kept saying too many emails (only 14 ) could lead to a virus infection and wouldn’t allow Thunderbird to send them, so I just turned off outgoing protection till the end of the season which is 5 weeks to go.
Funny you know it only started happening when the latest update from Avast came in 2 weeks ago
Pete
You can increase the quantity that would be considered a possible spambot present.
From The internet Mail provider, detailed view, click the Customize button, select the Heuristics tab and set the Sensitivity to Custom. Now click the Heuristics - Advanced tab and set the Absolute count value to cater for the number you normally send out, see images 1 & 2.
thanks David
made the changes thanks once again
Pete
No problem, glad I could help.
A belated welcome to the forums.
