How do you know?

This question has probably already been asked.
But I still new to all this.
I’m not sure how to get to the answer.
How do you know if its a false positive or not.

The easiest way would be to upload the suspected file to http://www.virustotal.com

If there are many detections by other A/V providers, then it’s most likely not going to be a False Positive.

If there are no detections, then it should be uploaded to Avast so that they can update their detections.

Have you got what you consider might be an FP ?

It is helpful if you post the virustotal results URL and we can see what is detected by other AVs, etc.

If it is indeed a false positive, see http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=34950.msg293451#msg293451, how to report it to avast! and what to do to exclude them until the problem is corrected.
