How often shall I scan my laptop?

Greets! I’m not sure if it is the right forum to ask this but anyway.

The question is simple, is it a “must” to scan my laptop let’s say, up and then? like 1-2 times in a month?

Since avast! gets updated daily, is there a chance of having a new virus inside my laptop before avasts knew about it? Or does it catch it itself after the daily update (if there’s one, that’s it)

Thanks for your time!

P.S Keep up the good work avast! team

With a resident on-access antivirus like avast, the need for frequent on-demand scans is much depreciated. For the most part the on-demand scan is going to be scanning files that would be otherwise be dormant or inert. If they were active files then the on-access file system shield would be scanning them before being created, modified, opened or executed. So with regular signature updates any active file would be scanned regularly with updated signature scans.

I have avast set to do a scheduled weekly Quick scan, set at a time and day that I know the computer will be on. If for some reason my system wasn’t on, no big deal I will catch up on the next scheduled scan.

Just as support for not needing to do scans very often, I only do Avast scans once a month if I suspect a need which is almost never. Avast is very good with updates and protecting your computer.

I do, however, update MBAM free (malwarebytes antimalware) once a week and run a scan with it. Nothing has been found with MBAM after doing this for more than a year.

I do occasionally get “blocked” alerts from Avast while doing malware research but nothing seems to get by.

That’s quite enough for keeping your laptop clean.avast! does very good in blocking. stay safe
