First, I’m an Avast user and not an Avast Team member.
And I don’t use the Avast One product, but my guess it would be the same as Avast Antivirus product. You could try looking in the Avast One sub-forum as it may have been asked before.
If you have forgotten the password that you set to change the settings, there is no simple way to reset set, or anyone could do it maliciously.
For the Avast Antivirus product, you effectively have to do a clean uninstall, reboot and reinstall. Any setting you you had previously set would be lost, back to original state.
This is what those with Avast Antivirus product would have to do:
Clean Reinstall
-
-
- Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, avastclear.exe Avast Removal Tool | Download Avast Clear | Avast and save it to your HDD. Make a note of the steps required or print the page.
-
- Now I don’t know if this avast! Uninstall Utility covers all variants of Avast Antivirus and Avast One antivirus
-
-
- Download the latest Avast off-line installation file for your Avast Program

yes thats that’s what i found out with more searching, CoPilot actually confirmed made my mind up that is the best solution. I was then able to set 1st new password.
Without doubt the clean reinstall is the way to go, as other half hearted attempts generally fail to completely clear.
I would suggest that you leave a cryptic clue (at home) as to what your new password is, just in case.
Once you have Avast One setup as you want it I would also suggest that you export your settings, should you ever need to do something like this or experience other related problems. This way should you make changes that have an adverse impact (and you forgot what they were) you could import your previous exported settings.
thankyou. i had used the make backup of settings button under troubleshooting menu. maybe that’s why once reinstalled, i didn’t have to specify all the email servers, those access settings, etc. Most all settings were as originally set up. I was quite pleased to find out i didn’t need to add or change anything. It also stopped giving the can’t get error when i try manually checking for new virus definitions. It still checking emails in my ms365 classic outlook. alerting me when it moves suspicious & known email threats to spam folders.
You’re welcome.
I have always followed the old school saying if you don’t want to lose it, back it up.
I have just completed my weekly data backup
