How To Change Default Search engine to duckduckgo

I want to change the default search engine to duckduckgo. That’s easy to do in Firefox because it has a list of search engines in setting option. But Avast browser doesn’t have DuckDuckgo. It has only four options for search engine and DuckDuckGo is not one of them. How do I to add it and make DuckDuckGo the default?

Hello Jen47,

To set duckduckgo as a default search engine. You first need to add new “Site search”.

Go to secure://settings/searchEngines , click the “Add” button next to Site search and fill the form (most important is the URL - I recommend https://duckduckgo.com/?q=%s )

Then you will need to click 3 dots next to the newly added entry. And there will be “Make default”

Thank you Libor Šlechta. That worked perfectly!

Hi,
I just installed the browser and am unable to make DuckDuckGo the default search engine. When I tried editing the default search engine to DDG, the “URL with %s in place of query” field is greyed out and is still the URL for Bing. When I add DDG to the Site Search list, the “Make Default” is greyed out. What am I missing?

D’oh! I just figured it out. I was missing the “s” after % in the URL.
Thanks!
