How to get the Password for avast5?

How to access the settings when you forget to give the password in avast5.
What happened I just checked for password and give no password to access the avast5 settings. Now I am unable to access the settings for avast5.

Whenever I click on settings avast5 ask for the password which I never given.

what happens if you trie avast repair ?..

For a repair of avast. Windows, Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button from the pop-up window, scroll down to Repair, click next and follow.

if not i think reinstall is the only way…

there’s no password by default so that sounds a bit weird…

jepp i have not found it yet, i think there is in 4.8 , but have never used it

@Logos …very nice mustache you have ;D

nope, in 4.8 neither, it’s blank as default

If you have entered the password to stop unauthorised changes in the settings and forgotten the password or someone with access to the system has set a password; then the only reasonable way to get round that is to reinstall, probably best to do a clean reinstall:

Download the latest version of avast http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html (if you haven’t retained a copy) and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again. Use that when you reinstall.

Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, find it here and save it to your HDD.

    1. Now uninstall (using add remove programs, if you can’t do that start from the next step), reboot.- 2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility, reboot. If step 1 failed it may be necessary to run this from safe mode, once complete reboot into normal mode.- 3. install the latest version, reboot.

I have tried avast5 repair but there is no change. avast5 is again asking for a password which I never given.
Now I think reinstall is the only way…

Thanks Sir DavidR for the valuable suggestion.

You are welcome.

You are also right a repair won’t resolve a password issue as it isn’t an original part of avast, so an integrity check wouldn’t find any fault.

There are many cases of this when the password for whatever reason appears to have been set, the only way round it was a reinstall and preferably a clean install.
