How to kill voice update announcement?

I’ve heard it hundreds of times now. When I connect my computer to the internet it usually says, “Virus database has been updated”. I’m getting pretty tired of it. The voice is clear and good quality, but I just don’t want to hear it anymore. Is there some way to kill it?

The little blue window that pops up at the same time is OK, except it stays around too long. I’d like to reduce it to a 1-2 seconds appearance. Can that be done too?

right click avast ball(system tray)-program settings-update(basic)-details-check silent,bri

I already tried that. It doesn’t work after the program update (yesterday, I believe).

This method was suggested once - it also allows you to either change the voice to any other sound you’d like, or else set it to ‘none’

Regarding the time period for the box to display, I don’t know that the time can be set specifically; it may be possible to switch it off altogether…

…but I can’t find the necessary line in my avast4.ini file ???

Thanks for the tip. This should work to kill the voice…

Program Settings, Sounds, Settings button
swap the “Avast Automatic Update” .wav sound for something different

So, add them to avast4.ini file…
You’ll find more info in the 1st post of the ‘Settings’ thread (click on my signature) 8)

There we go then - Avast is as highly configurable as you can get anywhere
