How to remove and REALLY permanently disable Avast's firewall, other than uninstalling Avast

Am currently using Avast free antivirus to supplement Microsoft’s. However, the Avast firewall is awful, with it being extremely difficult to create exceptions and rules relative to what can be done with Microsoft’s firewall. However, even if I turn off Avast’s firewall, on updates it restarts it without asking me first, and shuts off the windows firewall which I have configured with rules and exceptions. Am about to give up and just uninstall Avast and find a different third party AV to do additional scans. Is there any solution other than uninstalling Avast?

Some time ago it was easier to remove a component via the Avast UI, Unfortunately that changes a short time ago and you essentially have to go through the Windows Add Remove Programs.

Avast - Modify - Remove the check mark for the firewall.
You will need to restart to bring this into effect - at that point Windows should enable the windows firewall.

I have struggled with this issue for YEARS, now. It is downright intrusive of them to do. Thank you for this plain and clear answer! It deserves a thousand more :beating_heart: ‘s. I signed up just to thank you for this.

Personally, I do not use Window’s Firewall, either. I use Sphinx Software’s “Windows 10 Firewall Control”. I cannot count on my hands the number of times throughout the years that something would suddenly not work and I would spend an hour trying to figure out why. Hours of wasted time and energy… just to find out that Avast Firewall was automatically re-enabled. It happens so sparsely that I forget to check that first, the next time it happens. Very annoying.
