I have a lot of computers I’ve uninstalled managed products from but a lot still appear in teh Computers with Agent Dynamic computer group with black icons. Oddly these still have installed and running providers listed for them under the Summary part of their properties. How can I completely remove all remaining Avast components from these machines? Searching the forums I see others have had this problem but they seem to be dealing with individual computers using the free version, I want to do this for a batch of 33 computers so don’t want to have to log on to each of them individually and do some manual removal steps.
the console remembers the last contact with that computer. The black icon indicates that the computer is not contacting the server anymore for more then 45 minutes.
The console cant detect that the service is uninstalled, not even after you gave the instruction to uninstall via the console.
If you check the computer itself it will probably not show avast installed anymore.
BUT as with all AV products, there are always remaining parts of the software present. This can be removed with the AVAST UNINSTALL utility, this is however a manual action. (or at least there are no known arguments for the executable known to me)
I’d seen mention of the utility in other forum postings from when I’d looked at this problem. It looks like I’ll have to:
- copy the utility to the computer
- reboot the computer into safe mode
- run the utility
- delete the utility from the computer
- reboot it back into normal mode
- verify Avast is actually gone
For each of the 33 computers affected because the uninstaller doesn’t do it’s job properly? Worse, it requires manual intervention and doesn’t accept parameters so I can’t even script running it. This may take a while.
There is not one AV product that does uninstallation good, avast is no exception in this.
All major AV companies have a special uninstallation tool for it and its recommended to run that kind of tool before installing another AV product
I understand your unwillingness to start running around to reach the computers, but hey we are in the IT business incidents like this happen and we need to be flexible to do our job.
but to be clear, you mentioned that you saw the agent is still installed, is that on the CONSOLE or on the actual client?
In the CONSOLE part it is what i explained, running the cleanup tool will not change that. For the CONSOLE to see the agentless computer you hvae to delete the computer object form the list and rediscover it.
edit: one of the other Avast Evangelists has made his own cleaning tool, im asking him to get to this thread to maybe help you out with a scripted way if possible
