I went to open up one of my programs and all of a sudden avast popped up and said it was a virus, and it gave me no options what so ever and took away the program file from the shortcut on my desktop I have looked at the virus chest in the settings and you have no way of seeing where the file is to restore it. I do not expect an antivirus program to take things away from em without even giving me an option of whether you can trust the file or not first. Surely this thing must have a vault. So is there a way I can get it back.
you right click the file
using the chest. http://www.avast.com/faq.php#tab4
what was the malware name given?
where was the file located…full file path?
have you tested the file at www.virustotal.com
Well that would be great if that information was actually for the Avast Free version. but no way as it got them options. The only thing that is in the free version is the size for the chest. Nothing else is in there. That info you gave there was for the Premier version.
GUI>Maintenance>Virus Chest Once opened right click on the item then select from to drop-down menu.
I would suggest that you re-scan before replacing, just in case the item does not come up clean.
there is no difference how the chest work from free to payed versions
you right click the file in chest and follow the dropp down menu. http://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB21#idt_05
all avast versions are identical…just added features
Thanks very much guys I was looking in the chest in the wrong place under the settings, instead of the maintenance section. Silly me still new to this antivirus. All sorted now and thanks.
have you tested the file at www.virustotal.com
post link to scan result here
if this is a FP it should be sendt to avast lab for correction…
you can see how to do that in the same “using virus chest” guide
