I think the only things I sent to the chest were Spybot related, and I hope I can just reinstall Spybot to get it working again. But I’m not sure that I didn’t send something else important to the chest during all the false positives. Is there any way to restore selected items from the chest back to the proper places?
Hello,
yes, just right click and choose “Restore”.
Milos
As Milos said.
Procedure: (in case you are unsure, as indicated by your question)
-Start Avast antivirus.
-Following the memory test, which takes about half a minute, the gui will open.
-Click on the chest symbol, which will open the quarantine.
- Be sure that of the categories available, you are looking at “infected files” only.
-Right click each file in turn, rescan it, if clean (anything put in there today is likely to be clean) select “restore”.
All clear?
Follow Tarq57 guide but restore only detecting the Win32:Delf-MZG and Win32:Zbot-MKK name. This was the only problem in VPS - 091203-0.
If ever you find in quarantine different name of virus do not restore.
Restore only the Win32:Delf-MZG and Win32:Zbot-MKK.
Also “Win32:Zbot-MKK” (that’s also a FP).

Problem #1:
When trying to launch Avast I get, ‘Unknown Error. Application cannot load. Function “usiGetSkin” failed.’ I followed the FAQ instructions for Windows XP and got: ‘LoadLibrary (“ACTSKIN4.OCX”) failed - The specified module could not be found.’
Problem #2:
So I went to C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4. I found ‘ashChest’ and opened from there. In ‘Infected Files’ I see 4 Spybot files and 3 Windows files. All these were put there by me during the false positive issue. I highlight them and tell them to restore. It tells me this was successful. Problem is, the files are still seen in the infected files list. If they are restored shouldn’t they be gone from the chest?
If they are restored shouldn't they be gone from the chest?
no, a copy the file still remains in chest. but when restored, if successfully restored, then there should be no problems.
thanks

Okay thanks. A quick check of the locations shows the files are properly restored.
For future reference, any help on Problem #1, getting the Avast gui to launch?

In the above link I read:
“For some reason, ActiveSkin (the 3rd party library avast uses for skinning) does not seem to be working on your system. As a workaround, we may disable skinning in avast - that should solve the problem.”
How do I disable skinning?
first of all,
did you try this:
You will have to register ACTSKIN4.OCX Follow the instructions:Select START > RUN…
Enter the following command:
If you have Windows NT or 2000:
C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\REGSVR32.EXE ACTSKIN4.OCX
If you have Windows 95, 98 or ME:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\REGSVR32.EXE ACTSKIN4.OCX
If you have Windows XP:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\REGSVR32.EXE ACTSKIN4.OCX
If you have Windows x64:
C:\WINDOWS\SysWOW64\REGSVR32.EXE ACTSKIN4.OCXPress OK (or Enter).
A message saying that the file was successfully registered should appear…

Yes, following those instructions for Windows XP I got: ‘LoadLibrary (“ACTSKIN4.OCX”) failed - The specified module could not be found.’
next :
For some reason, ActiveSkin (the 3rd party library avast uses for skinning) does not seem to be working on your system. As a workaround, we may disable skinning in avast - that should solve the problem. To do that, open the file \data\avast4.ini, look up the [UserInterface] section, and add the following entry:
StartWithSkin=0
