I installed the program and ran it on start up. It did a great job and solved a problem. But the shortcut on the desktop doesn’t start the program! The target is ashAvast.exe, and that program doesn’t seem exist. What is the name of the program that starts Avast!4 Home?
Added several hours later: I downloaded the installation software again, and reinstalled over the intsallation that wasn’t working. The program started working properly right away, ;D
What?
ashAvast.exe does not exist :o
Well, you have trouble, maybe the better will be reinstalling avast.
Just to answer your question:
ashAvast.exe is the ‘generic’ loader for both Home and Professional version. It’s the splash screen.
ashSimpl.exe is the Home version (skinned).
ashSimp2.exe is the Home version too, but skinless.
ashEnhcd.exe is the Professional version.
ashQuick.exe is the quick scanner of avast (Windows Explorer extension).
ashdisp.exe is the ‘icon’ on system tray.
Even though I have an Avast shortcut on my desktop, I
always RIGHT-click the Avast icon in the System Tray,
selecting “Start avast! Antivirus”, to run a scan ;
have you tried this ?
The file exists and if I click it it does start the memory scan and the on-demand scan (simple user interface) if this doesn’t work for you try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. You need to be on-line to do this.
If that doesn’t work try, uninstall, reboot, install, reboot.
However, as has been mentioned I too use the avast icon right click context menu to start the simple user interface. If you try to start it this way does it work?
